A 180-page landscape book for Velocity Media, built from a blank brief to a printed softcover. The content ranged from dense strategic frameworks to open photographic sequences, with no existing template or design system to inherit.
I designed the editorial system from scratch: a modular grid flexible enough to handle data-heavy strategy pages and full-bleed photography within the same binding. The typographic hierarchy runs four levels deep, each one signalling content type at a glance.
The grid and type system came first. I built both as reusable frameworks, tested them against the most demanding spreads in the manuscript, and revised until the system held without forcing content into awkward compromises. Spread sequencing followed a deliberate rhythm: dense pages earn their breathing room. Two analytical spreads, then a photographic pause.
The book went to print as a softcover. Production decisions favoured readability and handling over decorative finish. Stock weight, binding method, and trim size were specified to keep a 180-page book comfortable in the hand.
